Corporate Citizenship

Being a responsible corporate citizen means more than just a financial commitment to a cause or an organization. It means participating as an active member of the community in which we do business. GE MDS’ commitment to the communities we do business in is exhibited through three main areas of focus:

Celebrating Science and Math
What better way to teach and encourage students to embrace math and science than for our own employees to share their technical and creative skills--the same skills that support the technology that drives what we do everyday!

Along with providing equipment, technical services and instructors to Rochester Institute of Technology, Monroe Community College and many other organizations, we also proudly sponsor Science Saturdays, a yearlong event at the Rochester Museum and Science Center. Science Saturdays programming is designed for middle, junior and senior high school students and their families to experience science in a fun and informal setting throughout the year. Many employees participate in a specially designed "GE MDS Saturday" to work directly with students from the community. Our volunteers share their knowledge and passion for math, science and technology, and of course radio!

Creating a Healthy Community
It is critical for the well being of our company, our employees, and the global community that we actively participate in and support initiatives that better the health of our world. GE MDS sponsors employees to run, walk and bike in charity events for health-related organizations that many of our employees are passionate about. Each year GE MDS contributes to and holds a campaign for United Way’s Health and Human Service programs. We also encourage / support wellness for our employees and their’ families with a comprehensive medical and dental plan, an on-site exercise room and classes, company-sponsored sports teams, an at-work Weight Watchers program, and an ‘unofficial’ runners club that meets for a daily run during lunch. Creating a healthy community begins with, healthy employees able to create a balanced work and home life.

Encouraging and Rewarding Volunteerism
GE MDS encourages employees to support their own personal volunteer interests and to give back to the community through everyday involvement.

We encourage this involvement through our “GE MDS…Volunteers with Frequency” initiative. Employees are given two paid days to use for community service volunteer efforts, which might include departments planned outings, United Way’s Day of Caring, or a personal volunteer effort. Employees are also recognized for their efforts through an annual event where the company makes a donation in their name to their charity of choice. GE MDS employees also participate in annual food and clothing drives for our neighbors strengthening our ties to the community.

The United Way’s Volunteer Connection is a great resource for finding volunteer opportunities throughout our community.
