Public Safety/Last Mile Communications

GE MDS has provided mission critical communications to public safety agencies for more than 15 years. During that time, our radios have been used for voice and data systems in city, county and state public safety communications systems; municipal traffic monitoring and control communications systems; and automation (supervisory control and data acquisition) projects for public works departments.

GE MDS Point-to-Point Solutions

Many of our installations are point-to-point radio links backhauling voice and data traffic for public safety entities. Wireless solutions are chosen over hard-wired alternatives because of their reduced installation cost, rapid deployment, independence from public telecommunications companies, and most importantly, high reliability with no reoccurring monthly leased line costs. GE MDS works with numerous law enforcement and 9-1-1 emergency communications agencies to provide wireless solutions that enable links:

  • For city, county, and state public safety agencies;
  • From dispatch centers to remote mobile radio base stations; voting and satellite receivers; and paging transmitters for fire, police and ambulance emergency services;
  • To trunking systems;
  • From Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) to Secondary Answering Points;
  • To facilitate consolidation of PSAPs; and
  • Back-up links for critical circuits that could be compromised or interrupted by natural disasters and other emergency situations.
